Tennis lessons in Hollywood
Hollywood sits in the middle of the service area, which makes it the easiest neighborhood in the city to get on a schedule.
Coaching that travels to Hollywood
Between the flats below Sunset, the hillside streets above Franklin and the pocket of apartments east of La Brea, Hollywood players tend to fall into two camps: those with a building court a floor below them, and those who walk or drive five minutes to a park court. Both work.
Because Hollywood is the geographic center of the week, it usually has the widest choice of times, including the mid-morning and early-afternoon slots that are harder to get out in the San Gabriel Valley.
There is no fixed facility behind Poom's Tennis Academy. You name the court in or near Hollywood and the coaching shows up there, racquets swinging within the first few minutes rather than after a drive across the city.

Where Hollywood players tend to book
Poinsettia Recreation Center
The default public option for the flats between Fairfax and La Brea; players here usually handle their own court time.
Vermont Canyon Tennis Courts, Griffith Park
Up the canyon above Los Feliz Blvd. A common pick for players in the hills who want a reservation-based court.
Griffith Riverside Tennis Courts
On the Los Angeles River side of the park, and the easier drive if you're coming from East Hollywood.
Plenty of Hollywood lessons also happen on apartment, condo and private hillside courts. If your building has one, the only thing to check first is whether outside coaching is permitted; some HOAs require it in writing.
Courts listed above are public facilities that players in the area commonly choose. Poom's Tennis Academy is not affiliated with them, and access, reservations and any outside-coaching rules are confirmed with you before a lesson is set.
Who trains in Hollywood
- Adults starting from zero, often on a weekday morning
- Couples and roommates splitting a semi-private hour
- Players who moved here with a racquet and haven't used it
- Hillside families booking a court near the house
Best times to play here
The flats bake in late afternoon from June through September, so summer sessions skew early morning or after 5pm. Park courts in Griffith Park move fastest on weekend mornings, so a weekday slot is usually the calmer choice.
Getting to your court
Nothing in Hollywood is a long drive from the rest of the route, so same-week scheduling is realistic here more often than anywhere else in the service area.
