Tennis lessons in Los Feliz

Los Feliz has the best public court access of any neighborhood in the service area. Griffith Park is effectively the backyard.

Coaching that travels to Los Feliz

Players here are split between the hillside streets above Los Feliz Blvd and the flats down toward Hollywood Blvd. Either way, the drive to a real bank of courts is measured in minutes, not miles.

The neighborhood also produces a lot of family bookings: a junior lesson on Saturday morning followed by a parent hitting for the hour after.

There is no fixed facility behind Poom's Tennis Academy. You name the court in or near Los Feliz and the coaching shows up there, racquets swinging within the first few minutes rather than after a drive across the city.

Best times to play here

Mornings, decisively. The canyon holds shade early and the courts empty out before the midday crowd arrives. Winter afternoons are pleasant here too, since the hills cut the wind.

Getting to the park

The canyon roads back up on weekend afternoons when the observatory traffic builds. Early starts sidestep it entirely.

Courts in and around Los Feliz

  • Vermont Canyon Tennis Courts, Griffith Park

Straight up Vermont past the Greek Theatre, the neighborhood's default court.

  • Griffith Riverside Tennis Courts

On the river side of the park, usually the faster option when coming from the flats.

Private hillside courts turn up here more than almost anywhere else in Central LA. If you have access to one, it's the quietest place in the city to take a lesson.

Courts listed above are public facilities that players in the area commonly choose. Poom's Tennis Academy is not affiliated with them, and access, reservations and any outside-coaching rules are confirmed with you before a lesson is set.
